Curriculum Overview
We believe in inspiring a true love of learning while celebrating the unique talents of every child. Our curriculum, based on the National Curriculum, focuses on core subjects like English, Maths, and Science, but we go much further. Creativity, critical thinking, and emotional well-being are just as important to us. We offer a balanced education that includes the arts, History, Geography, Music PE, and computing, ensuring your child develops into a well-rounded individual ready for the future. We also make the most of our beautiful outdoor spaces, where children can explore the natural world and ignite their curiosity through nature-based activities.

Personalised Learning Experiences
Our curriculum is broad, balanced and enriched with a strong approach to global learning including the teaching of Spanish from Year 1 to Year 6 and the work of our partnership with Egerton Primary School in Kenya. It is important that children are supported and actively encouraged to be curious about the world they live in. Global learning at Egerton is like a golden thread running through all aspects of the curriculum involving local, national and global aspects. The staff work hard to ensure that we are responsive as a team to provide every child with learning opportunities to think critically and gain an accurate world view.
The school has a thoughtful and wide-ranging promotion of pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and their physical well-being enables pupils to thrive as individuals and collectively. Children are actively encouraged to be curious, to gain a sense of fascination of themselves and the world around them. All children run a ‘Daily Mile’ which supports a healthy body and a healthy mind.
The aspects as defined by British Values; Respect, Tolerance, Social Justice, Right to vote and Democracy are threaded through our curriculum. In reality, of course, there are few, if any, values that are exclusively British. There may be some national traits and characteristics, but what we hold dear and important is also true of most other nationalities, races and creeds. These are basic, human, universal values of decency and care of one person for another, for family, peaceful community and social cohesion.
PE - A Holistic Approach
Both Infant and Junior children participate in regular Physical Education (PE) sessions, including swimming lessons exclusively for Junior children, which are taught by specialist staff. Additionally our Year 6 pupils take on the role of "PhysKids," leading and facilitating games for younger children every Tuesday and Thursday. Our sports program encompasses a wide range of activities such as football, netball, athletics, dance, tennis, and swimming.
Teams regularly engage in tournaments and competitions, showcasing the high standard of sportsmanship across the school. Mid-week matches against other schools provide opportunities for students to represent Egerton, with all children eager to participate given the chance to do so.

Outdoor Learning and Trips
We believe in the power of outdoor learning, which is why every class participates in Forest School sessions throughout the year. These sessions take full advantage of our fantastic school grounds, offering children a hands-on, nature-based learning experience. Through Forest School, children explore the environment, develop problem-solving skills, and build resilience, all while fostering a deeper connection with the natural world. This approach encourages creativity, teamwork, and independence, allowing children to thrive outside the traditional classroom setting.
We also believe in enriching our children's educational experiences through trips. Year 5 pupils embark on a trip to Pensarn in Wales, where they engage in various outdoor educational activities. This trip typically includes team-building exercises, environmental studies, and opportunities for outdoor adventure. Children learn about coastal ecosystems and the importance of conservation while developing their teamwork and leadership skills in a beautiful, natural setting.Year 6 children have the exciting opportunity to explore Quarry Bank Mill, a significant site of the Industrial Revolution, where they learn about the history of cotton production and its impact on society. Following this, they visit Cadbury World, where they delve into the fascinating history of chocolate production and the ethical considerations surrounding it.
These experiences not only enrich their understanding of history but also inspire discussions about innovation and sustainability. Year 4 travels to Chester as part of their topic of The Romans, and Year 2 visits Burwardsley. These trips provide invaluable opportunities for hands-on learning and help children connect their classroom knowledge to the real world.
