The children in Year 6 will be learning about Evolution and Inheritance this half term linking to their theme of 'SURVIVAL'

Stunning Start

As a really exciting start to the theme, the children went on a visit to Chester Zoo where they took part in a workshop about Evolution and Inheritance. They learnt about how a giraffe didn't initally have a long neck, and looked more like a horse, however over millions of years it evolved to what we now recognise as a giraffe simply to ensure it had a constant food supply!

We also explored the Zoo and created 'David Attenbourgh' videos discussing the information we had discovered about each animal linking to: adaptation to habitat, evolution or inheritance.

Returning to class the children then wrote an acrostic poem, which will be entered into a local competition, using atmospheric devices: literary features and imagery. This was written from the point of view of their favourite animal and included any information they could remember about their adaptation to habitat, evolution or inheritance.
