As part of our learning about the 'Great Fire of London' the children took an amazing trip to 'Staircase House' in Stockport. This trip was split into two parts. The morning was a role play actiivty where the providers led us through the house and re-told the story of the great fire through the eyes of Samuel Pepys. The children were all given roles and provided with costumes to dress in. The environment was fantastic and the children were incredibly enthusiastic to get stuck in with the story. The afternoon session was split into two sections. Firstly, the children learnt all about fire marks and what they were introduced for. The children created their own fire mark using arts and crafts equipment. In the second activity, the children learnt about 'wattle and daub'. They studied pictures of houses made from it and learnt about what it was made from. They then worked in partners to create their own mini 'wattle and daub' structures. The day was a fantastic trip out and the children loved every minute of it! They also consolidated all of their learning from class, as well as introducing new knowledge which they didn't know prior to the visit.
